Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to send audio?

Often we can source the audio from a broadcast quality provider anyway. However, you might have something very unique or wish to send a reference piece. If that is the case, you don’t have to send it straight away until you’re ready for me to edit.

How do I send Step Up Sound my audio?

The fastest and most reliable way is a site we use called wetransfer.com it’s FREE, safe, simple and reliable. I’ve been using it for over a decade now. Emails can be a bit hit and miss with file size, but if you do have alternative ways like Dropbox or Google Drive, they are also acceptable. I’ll inform you if there is a problem.

How many revisions do I get?

You get two revisions included in the price. There is no hard timer on this, but you’ve got about a month to make those revisions. If it’s three or more revisions, it reverts to unlimited revisions at double the price for the original piece for a realistic period of time (three months).

Do i own the music once it's edited?

Step Up Sound (unless otherwise stated) does not own the music, and technically you don't either. However it's the same arrangement as if you had edited it yourself, so yes, you can keep that music on file for as long as you want.

Are you allowed to edit music?

It's the same as if you edited it yourself; we don't own the music, it goes under your fair use arrangement as someone who uses music. For example, cutting a song short or starting halfway through by pressing play on a CD is technically no different than finely crafted edit points in a digital domain. As long as either party don't claim to own the work, it is fine.

Why should dancers get their music edited?

By selecting, editing and enhancing music to fit the choreography, you no longer need to compromise - you get to make the music fit your vision.

How do you edit music for choreography?

Basic cutting is doable with a free piece of software like Audacity. For a smoother and 'invisible' transitions, you'll need to hire a professional or practice for a long time.

Is it hard to edit music for choreography?

For simple cuts or fade-outs, it's pretty simple, but for the first few times, it may require practice. For faster results, consider working with a professional.
